TCC Box Breaks: A Guide to Box Breaks

In this guide, we'll give you an overview of how Box Breaks are usually played out, as well what you need to keep in mind, when participating in box breaks. Furthermore, you will find information about how we are structuring our Box Breaks, how we store your cards, and how you can get them shipped to you.

What is a Box Break?

Put simply, a box break, also known as a case break, is when several people come together to purchase a given box, most of the time containing boosters. The box is bought in such as way, that one person is responsible for acquiring the box, opening the box, and distributing the cards among the participants, who buy 'spots' in the box. What is meant by this is, that the funding of the box, which is often expensive, is done through spots, where people buy spots, either randomized or chosen, and get the cards that fit into the specific spot. When box breaking soccer cards, the cards will often be split up into teams, thus the buyer who has the Manchester City-spot, will receive all the Manchester City players that are in the box.

Pick Your Team or Randomized Spots?

As mentioned, there exist primarily two ways of buying spots in box breaks. Either, and this is most of the time down to the seller, you get to pick which team you want cards from, or you have no say in which cards you get, as the spots are randomized between the participators.

The advantage of dividing spots through randomized spots, is that every buyer pays the same amount of money to participate, and even though there is only one spot left to buy, the buyer still has a chance to end up with the most desired team, as the spots are usually not distributed between the participators before the final spot is sold.

On the one hand, when allowing people to pick their own team, the desired spots may be easier to sell, as the buyers of these spots are almost guaranteed to get something of decent value. On the other hand, getting buyers for the less desired teams, with cards of lower value, might be a challenge, unless collectors with a soft spot for a less desired team joins the box break. This would often result in different spots being priced differently, as buyers will have a higher chance of hitting something good in specific spots.

Breaking the Box

Most of the time, when every spot is bought, the seller live-streams the opening of the box, where every booster is opened, such that the participants can follow along with the break. In this way, the participants can experience the thrill of opening a booster box, without having to buy the whole box. These live-streams are often done in Facebook groups or the like. We live-stream our Box Breaks in our own Facebook group: TCC Box Breaks which we recommend you to join, if you do not want to miss out on any news or information regarding our coming box breaks.

After the Break

When the box has been broken, the cards need to be shipped to their respective buyers. The seller, who opened the box, is in charge of splitting the cards up into the different teams, i.e. the given spots, before sending them off to the buyer. When purchasing their spots, the buyers will normally have entered their shipping information, making this process easy for the seller/opener.

When we do our Box Breaks, we do not immediately ship the opened cards to you, unless you want us to. Due to the fact that we expect some buyers to participate in several of our breaks, we imagine you would prefer to choose yourself, when to receive your cards, and have them all shipped in one package, instead of having to pick up packages from us multiple times. Thus, we store your cards from the breaks until you request for them to be shipped. Your cards are stored safely and insured along with the rest of our inventory. In this way, you can be sure that your cards never go missing, and you can request to have them shipped at any time.

To do so, simply add our TCC Box Breaks - Shipping to you basket, and proceed to shipping information. You can also chose to pick up your cards from Spilforsyningen at Bispensgade 34 in 9000 Aalborg this way.

This is, in short, how a box break of sports cards normally take place. Some sport cards allow the purchase of whole divisions or conferences as spots, while other collectible cards may be sold through booster number/placement or even the position of a card in a given booster.

Due to this, the way we split a box into spots may vary depending on the contents of the box.
